Baltic Sustainability Awards Calls for Entries Across the Region for Fourth Consecutive Year

For the fourth consecutive year, the Baltic Sustainability Awards & Forum is taking place, and we are inviting sustainable projects and initiatives to apply for the Awards. Companies, green tech startups, organizations, and sustainability ambassadors from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia are encouraged to submit entries across eleven categories. The awards aim to celebrate sustainability initiatives that serve as exemplars on the path to a greener and more sustainable future.

In a region home to over 500,000 registered companies across the three Baltic states, the Baltic Sustainability Innovation Awards present a unique opportunity for businesses to showcase their commitment to sustainability. However, despite the growing emphasis on environmental responsibility, less than 1% of eligible companies in the Baltics are currently applying for these awards. This strikingly low participation rate should serve as a wake-up call for the entire business community in the region.

We strongly encourage all companies and organizations, regardless of their size or sector, to seize this opportunity. Participating in the Baltic Sustainability Awards not only offers invaluable feedback from industry experts but also provides a platform for recognition and potential business growth. It's a chance to benchmark your sustainability efforts against the best in the region and gain insights that can drive your organization forward.

The eleven award categories cover all major areas of sustainability – from technological achievements and innovations to inspiring sustainability leaders. The award ceremony will take place on November 26th at the "Splendid Palace" cinema, followed by a full-day conference on November 27th.

Companies, startups, organizations, and ambassadors are invited to apply in the following categories:

  • Circular Economy

  • Climate Innovation

  • Energy Technologies

  • Social Initiatives

  • Urban Development

  • Biodiversity and Conservation

  • Transport and Mobility

  • Food Innovation

  • Regenerative Agriculture

  • Manufacturing and Industrial Symbiosis

  • Sustainability Ambassador

A specially selected jury of experts from across Europe will evaluate the applications, with the assessment process led by the award's methodological partner and leading business consulting company in Latvia, EY Baltic.

"We are convinced that the development of sustainable solutions for a better tomorrow is unthinkable without innovation. That is why we are proud that this year for the fourth time we will be able to highlight the sustainability innovation success stories of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania on the stage of the Baltic Sustainability Innovation Award. We are looking forward to this two-day event together with world experts and sustainability leaders, already experienced market players and start-up companies, organizations, and community representatives from all over the Baltics, we could discuss and promote cooperation that can create a significant impact," emphasizes Zanda Šadre, Director of Corporate Responsibility and Communication at Rimi Baltic.

"In the field of sustainability, broad public and business involvement, cross-sectoral approach and active cooperation are necessary. Because results take time, it's important to regularly take a moment to notice and evaluate the projects already in place. May this initiative empower us to take proactive action, including in the area of renewable energy close to us.  Solar and wind energy is one of the most important resources for the development of our region, which can promote not only environmental protection but also the development of various industries, economic prosperity, and energy independence," says Zane Poča, communications partner of Ignitis Group Latvia.

In 2023, the Baltic Sustainability Innovation Awards received an impressive number of applications from across the region, with 32% from Latvia, 29% from Estonia, and 33% from Lithuania. 240 applications successfully passed the initial screening, demonstrating the high quality of sustainability initiatives in the Baltics. These applications then proceeded to an extensive evaluation process conducted by a panel of over 50 expert jury members. Last year's Lithuanian finalists included sustainability leaders such as PVcase, Oxylabs, and other significant initiatives.

The application deadline is October 6th. Submit your innovation at https://www.balticsustainabilityawards.eu/
